Are you taking care of your skin?

It is extremely important to take care of your skin both inside and out.  Food, climate, medications and skin care routines can make all the difference in your skin's overall health.

The Look of your Skin
    • Your skin care routine is important if you want your skin to look healthy. Healthy skin looks vibrant, supple and full.  Unhealthy skin looks dull and grey.  Spots, scars, sun damage and wrinkles can develop faster and sink deeper if your skin is dehydrated, unprotected and unhealthy.   As skin ages, it loses elasticity and becomes thinner.  Unhealthy skin without a proper skin care health and maintenance will only speed up this process.

      Your Skin Care Routine

      • Proper skin care means cleansing it properly. Skin needs moisture to survive.  Use warm or cool water to cleanse your face.  Do not use soap or strong chemicals, they will strip moisture from your skin and oily skin will start to produce even more oil.  Keep your body moisturized by applying lotion within a few minutes of bathing. If you have a problem with dry skin, use an oil-based lotion on the problem area several times a day.  The skin on your face is much more delicate.  Take the time to nurture your skin by treating yourself to a facial by a professional aesthetician.  A professional aesthetician will be able to prescribe an appropriate skin care regimen.

    Maintaining Healthy Skin

    • Have you noticed that your skin is constantly changing?  This being said, your skin care system may change from time to time. Hydration, a healthy diet and a daily vitamin can help to maintain skin health.  So drink up the H2O, eat your fruits and veggies and gobble up those lean proteins.  Wild salmon is a wonderful lean protein that is great for your skin.  One thing that won't change about your skin care maintenance is using a moisturizer with SPF during the day.  Remember to use a different moisturizer at night that doesn't have SPF.  Those ingredients that protect your skin during the day can inhibit  cells from renewing at night.

    Skin Care During Pregnancy

    • Remember your skin is your largest organ and absorbs what you put on it in to your bloodstream.  Some topical medications and creams may not be healthy for the little one developing inside, so ask your doctor or skin care professional about current and new products you are applying to your skin.

      Human Skin Definition:
"The human skin is the outer covering of the body. In humans, it is the largest organ of the integumentary system. The skin has multiple layers of ectodermal tissue and guards the underlying musclesbonesligaments and internal organs.[1] Human skin is similar to that of most other mammals, except that it is not protected by a pelt. Though nearly all human skin is covered with hair follicles, it appears hairless. There are two general types of skin, hairy and glabrous skin.[2] The adjective cutaneous literally means "of the skin" (from Latincutis, skin).
Because it interfaces with the environment, skin plays a key role in protecting (the body) against pathogens[3] and excessive water loss.[4]Its other functions are insulationtemperature regulation, sensation, synthesis of vitamin D, and the protection of vitamin B folates. Severely damaged skin will try to heal by forming scar tissue. This is often discolored and depigmented.
In humans, skin pigmentation varies among populations, and skin type can range from dry to oily. Such skin variety provides a rich and diverse habit for bacteria which number roughly at 1000 species from 19"
